A fourth grade classroom in a Boy's School in Moscow. The Soviet segregates the sexes in the primary schools, merges them in co-ed institutes and universities. Green plants, as shown on window-sills, are to be found everywhere in classrooms. Soviet educators place great stress on their value as purifiers of air. When Zander Hollander, former University of Michigan student editor, who took this picture, entered the room, he said the class snapped to attention with drill-filled precision. Zander and two other American students, Mark Emond of the University of Colorado and Daniel Berger of Oberlin College made a recent trip into Russia. Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches.
